"Yipee! is the Chandler-turned-Minneapolis project of rock and roller extraordinaire Aaron Ponzo. However, is it even fair to label this a project? Project implies schooling; project implies designated effort; project implies chores. Yipee! should not be labeled a project. Yipee! is an attitude. Yipee! is fun. Yipee! is sentimental, kind, good-natured. Yipee! is the sound of evolution.
Evolution is far from common for Arizonans. While some communities have flourished as years move forward, Arizona somehow remains shallow and lifeless. What sets apart those that evolve in this state? Making the most of nothing and everything; making sense of the never ending expansion of circular highways. The sprawl of Arizona is difficult to explain to those that are not from here. Life is a highway, and Arizona really wants us to drive it all night long. Yipee! represents the knowing of Arizona. Yipee! is Phoenix: never having an identity, and somehow still being able to fit new shit into it every day.
Arizona can be heard loud and clear on Field of Dreams. With influences ranging from The Gin Blossoms, to DIY heroes Dogbreth, and even stretching all the way to the rave scene that took Arizona warehouses by storm in the past half decade. Aaron knows this place like no one else I have ever met. After listening to Field of Dreams, you too may understand the complex nothingness of living here.
Two input interfaces, laptop microphones, cassette tapes, and sentimentality were all that was needed for Aaron to create this gem. If living in Arizona means anything, then it means making music by your dang self.
Location can mean everything. Phoenix gains about twenty thousand residents annually, but losing Aaron is worth at least a million in the other direction. What Phoenix loses, the rest of the world gains. Field of Dreams is about breaking free and doing what you love. Field of Dreams is loving people, loving places, and having a few Cook Out trays along the way. Do not sleep on Field of Dreams like Phoenix has done to every good soul that lives here. Let songs from the desert pave a way in your heart to future Midwest anthems.
FFO: Dear Nora, Quarterbacks, Ok Vancouver Ok, Dogbreth, having fun, drinking cheerwine, eating fast food, playing basketball." - Col Bauer
